Identify the symbol and any accompanying text when safely stopped. The same colour can cover different conditions across vehicles. Consult the exact handbook rather than a generic internet chart. Do not operate a phone to identify a warning while driving.
Treat critical symptoms seriously
Loss of braking or steering assistance, an oil-pressure warning, overheating or smoke can require stopping safely and assistance. Do not erase codes or disconnect the battery merely to hide a warning. A light going out does not prove the fault is repaired.
Make diagnosis easier
Note whether the engine was cold, the speed and any unusual sounds. A fault code is a starting point for testing, not a guaranteed instruction to replace a named part. Ask the repairer about diagnosis and authorisation before work begins.
