ARM Cars editorial guide · Reviewed 3 November 2026
Start with the job the car must do
Write down weekly travel, passengers, luggage and parking needs. Set a purchase ceiling and keep a separate amount for insurance, inspection and maintenance. Compare total costs, not just asking prices. A car that cannot comfortably carry your family is not a saving.
Check the example, not just the badge
Request the registration, year, kilometres and service records before viewing. Arrange an independent mechanical inspection and investigate vehicle history and any security interest. A tidy cabin cannot tell you the condition of the cooling system or transmission.
Make the handover clear
Record the vehicle identity, buyer, seller, price and agreed work in writing. Check keys and documents against the car. Confirm the contractual seller if a partner is involved. Keep receipts and complete the required registered-person notification.
Official information and further reading
Requirements can change. Check the linked authority before completing paperwork or relying on a driving entitlement.
General information, not a vehicle inspection or confirmation of stock. Budget examples are planning figures. Current prices and availability must be confirmed.
